Education and Scientific Research
Education program is composed of :
1. PhD programmes: clinic and pre clinic categories
2. Postgraduate education programmes: including medical physics
3. Postgraduate medical education: including radiation oncology. Radiation oncology residency involves a minimum of 5 years of training, which can begin immediately after graduation from medical school.
Postgraduate fellowship programme has 12 students in total.

Valuable researches in basic oncology, as well as local, national and international researches in clinical oncology including radiation oncology and medical physics are undertaken by our institute.
The main purpose of a clinical trials on radiation oncology is to find a better way to prevent, diagnose or treat a disease. Clinical trials are part of a long, careful research process. Every clinical trial has a detailed plan that explains what will be done during the study and why. Some patients who participate in a clinical trial will receive drugs or procedures in combination with radiation therapy. Medical Physics department works on dosimetry and planning systems.
Researches include:
1. multidiciplinary trials in cooperation with İstanbul Medical Faculty
2. National multicentric trials
3. International multicentric trials
Besides, Instructors at Istanbul University Oncology Institute have prepared and published books entitled "Pulmonary Carcinoma", "Breast Carcinoma", "Ovary Carcinoma" and "Gastrointestinal Tumors".
Instructors and assistants of the institute also contribute to science through their publications, as well as their articles in peer review magazines and communiquës at congresses. Between 1990-2006 the institute has 110 articles publihed in SCI journals.
The institute both organizes and contributes to numerous national and international congresses and meetings. The head office of Istanbul Oncology Group, which undertakes scientific studies, is located in the institute.
Istanbul University Oncology Institute has been carrying the leading role for treatment protocols through consensus meetings organized on different types of cancer.
